Jack served his country in Vietnam as a proud U.S. Marine — a man of grit, honor, and quiet strength. He came home and poured that same devotion into his family. He was the kind of man who showed up, every time, for the people he loved. Whether standing watch overseas or standing by his wife's side, Jack was always faithful.
Maria was the heart and soul of the Shippey family. A devout Christian woman whose faith was as natural as breathing, she lived her belief in love, service, and grace every single day. Animals were woven into her story from the very beginning — Jack and Maria shared their home first with sweet Sugarfoot, then with the beloved Sadie Sue, and finally with their precious cat Kiki. After Kiki passed, their home was quieter, but Maria's love for animals never dimmed — she adored the neighbor's cat who brought her such comfort. And though the dogs belonged to her daughter, Maria loved them with her whole heart — Maya, Macy, and little Maggie were her beloved grandpups in every way that mattered.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
— 2 Timothy 4:7 · For Maria, and for Jack
Jack and Maria shared their home and their hearts with each precious animal that came into their lives. First came Sugarfoot, then the sweet Sadie Sue, and finally their beloved cat Kiki. After Kiki passed, they had no more animals of their own — but that love never stopped. Maria poured it into the neighbor's cat and into her daughter's dogs: Maya, her daughter's sweet girl who crossed the Rainbow Bridge before Maria did, and Macy and Maggie, who carry that love forward every day. We like to think Sugarfoot, Sadie Sue, Kiki, and Maya were all waiting at the gate — tails wagging and purring — when Jack and Maria arrived.
